I recently was asked to speak on a panel about work-life balance. I thought it was a huge joke until I got the discussion questions and address of the event. I was super flattered to think anyone thought I had any resemblance of balance in my life, and then I was terrified that I had to share my wacky ways with others.
I was asked how I knew I achieved balance. I thought about it for an entire 2 seconds, and answered, “not having to take anxiety meds or drink a bottle of wine to fall asleep and waking up in the morning with a purpose.” There were much more eloquent responses from the other speakers, but let’s face it – I have never been called eloquent. My main goal was, to be honest, and let other women know that I do NOT have any magical answer. I struggle. We all struggle. Every single day there is something I am not able to give my usual 110% to, and you know what, I am okay with that. Because I give all I can, and if I am okay with that I have found everyone else in my life is okay with it as well.
Turns out, I was my biggest critic. So this year I have decided I am giving myself the gift of grace. Grace: the quality or state of being considerate or thoughtful. It’s by far the best present I have given myself and I urge you to give yourself a little too!
